Certificate Programs

Overview

The Department of Industrial Management (DIM) currently offers several certificate programs to all NTUST students who wish to gain an additional qualification in important fields of Industrial Management, i.e. Industrial Safety and Hygiene and Industry 4.0 Intelligent Operations. While the former is offered only by the Department of Industrial Management, the latter is a cross-departmental program that involves the Departments of Industrial Management, Information Management, and Computer Science and Information Engineering. Certificates on Industrial Safety and Hygiene or Industry 4.0 Intelligent Operations will be issued by the School of Management, and will be conferred together with the degree certificate upon graduation. There is no quota limiting the intake of students. Apart from these programs, master's and doctoral students of Industrial Management may receive a Certicate of Concentration in the areas Systems Engineering,  Human Factor engineering Data Science if they fulfilled certain requirements  (detailed in the Certificate of Engineering Concentration Regulations and Application Form)
Furthermore, the DIM encourages Industrial Management students to sit the exam for the Industrial Engineer Certificate of Chinese Institute of Industrial Engineers (website in Chinese only) to enhance our graduates' competitiveness on the job market. This professional certificate, issued by the  Chinese Institute of Industrial Engineers, is considered as a valuable professional qualification in Taiwan. 
 

Industrial Safety and Hygiene Certificate Program

Eligibility and Application
The program is open to all NTUST undergraduate students from the 2nd year onwards as well as to graduate students.
Students have to submit their application within the application period designated in the NTUST Academic Calendar (i.e. within the add-and-drop period)

Credit requirements

The Certificate Program Industrial Safety and Hygiene requires 21 credits

  • 12 credits from required core courses offered by the DIM
  • 9 credits from elective core courses offered by the DIM and other Taiwan Tech departments 

Program Details 

The four required core courses in Industrial Management (12 credits):

  • IM4600 Industrial Safety (3 credits)
  • IM4606 Human Factors (2 credits)  + Human Factors Practice (1 credit) 
  • IM4611 Labor Safety and Health Act (credits) 
  • IM4612 Industrial Hygiene (3 credits)

Note

The number of credits taken in this program will be counted into the minimum total number of credits required by the respective department for graduation, and will be counted into the maximum number of credits taken in each semester as defined by the department the student is enrolled in.

N.B.: At the School of Management, each course is normally worth 3 credits and meets 3 hours per week over 18 weeks (one semester).

 

Industry 4.0 Intelligent Operations Certificate Program 

Eligibility and Applicationp
The program is open to all NTUST undergraduate students from the 2nd year onwards as well as to graduate students.It is delivered by the departments of Industrial Management (IM), Information Management (MI), and Computer Science and Information Engineering (CI).
Students have to submit their application within the application period desinated in the NTUST Academic Calendar (i.e. within the "add-and-drop period")

Credit requirements

The Certificate Program Industry 4.0 Intelligent Operations requires 21 credits

  • 6 credits from obligatory courses
  • 3 credits from a basic core course
  • 12 credits from elective core courses

Program Details 

Obligatory Courses: There are three obligatory courses à 2 credits:   

  • Introduction into Industry 4.0
  • Special Topic Course I
  • Special Topic Course II

The Special Topic Courses are courses where students carry out practical projects under the supervision of two advisors.The topic of the project has to be related to Industry 4.0 Intelligent Operation and must be approved by the Program Review Committee. The advisors have to be full-time faculty members of the IM, MI, or CI, and they have to be from two different departments. The results of the Special Project Courses will be presented in a competition held by the Industry 4.0 Implementation Centre. 

Basic Core Courses: Studnts have to take one of the basic core courses (3 credits) which are offered by the three involved departments in the first year of studies. 

  • Introduction to Industrial Management 
  • Introduction to Information Management 
  • Introduction to Computer Science


Elective Core Courses:The remaining 12 credits have to earned through four core courses that can be chosen from three areas, i.e. Big Data, Internet of Things and Cloud Computing, and Intelligent Operations and Management. Students have to take at least one course of each area, and at least one course has to be from a department which is not the student's major department.
